In this three-part series, we ask what underlying differences produce political conflict. First, we describe the idiosyncratic group of traits correlated with political outlook. We then describe the biology of aggression in a number of species, and how it is correlated with variation in very similar traits. Finally, we describe the hypothesis that the right-left political spectrum is a spectrum of variation in aggression and its correlated traits.
